our history
Universal Medical Innovations, is a limited liability Company incorporated in Nigeria on July 7th, 2013 at the Corporate Affairs Commission to carry out the preparation, planning and establishment of the Abuja City World Class Hospital.
In 2009, The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) expressed a desire to transform her 349 Nigerian Air Force Hospital Abuja (Federal Capital Territory) to a centre Excellency through the then Chief of Air Staff. A former Director, NAF Medical Services was invited. Despite an approval by the Hon Minister of Defence for this transformation vide their letter of 9th September 2010, successive Chief of Air Staff did not press home this approval. The great idea of 2009 soon faded away despite team of respected retired Senior Air Force Officers who have assembled to work with NAF on the Transformation.
The group of retired Senior NAF officers led by a former Chief of the Air Staff together with a former NAF Director of Medical Services (NAF Surgeon General) decided to work with NAF in the planned Hospital Transformation programme. The two retired officers saw it as part of their contribution to NAF in particular and the nation in general even in their retirement. They brought in other Retired Senior Officers and some Civilians Friends who share this passion.
All over the world, the medical facilities of the Armed Forces are always the most advanced in terms of Diagnostics, Curative and Preventive Medicare. For example, such world-class hospitals include, the National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda, Walter Reed Military Hospital and New Military Community Hospital, Fort Belvoir, all in the USA. Furthermore, these and similar. hospitals are highly rated in respect of Research and Development in the medical sciences. In Africa and the Middle, World Class Hospitals such as the Egypt Air Hospital, Cairo (an affiliate of George Pompidou World Class Hospital), France, approved by European Union as a World Centre in health. In Israel, Hospitals like the Sheba Medical Centre and Hezliya Medical Centre in Tel Aviv are World Class Hospitals in the mould of the American and other World Class Hospitals. The Sheba Medical Centre patronized by high-ranking Nigerians is headed by Prof Dr Aris Shamis, a retired Colonel of the Israel Air Force. He is a Helicopter Pilot physician and Flight Surgeon. All these informed the motivation of the retired NAF Senior Officers to sponsor this Project as seen in their contribution to national development.
In order to help actualize the above-mentioned project, the retired officers decided to go into Joint Venture Partnership with Foreign Investors, by incorporating a Special Project Vehicle (SPV) to drive the project. The Special Project Vehicle (SPV) is also legally allowed to carry out other allied businesses. Our main focus now is this World Class Hospital. The Company started planning the Hospital since May 2009 using a sister company and is now close to realization. Corporate Affairs: RC 1155100.
